TOP 9 Independent Living Aids For People With Limited Mobility in Australia
#1 LIGHT DRIVEFUNDED Turn your manual wheelchair into a power chair in 20 seconds!
Are you after more power from your wheelchair? The Light Drive is a motor that attaches to the rear of most manual wheelchairs and is activated using a joystick to send power to the rear wheels.
The joystick controller can be setup for user or companion operation.
When power assistance is applied, the wheelchair travels effortlessly forwards or backwards along many terrains of differing inclines. This is all done while maintaining the maneuverability of your wheelchair.
With the Light Drive there is no need to switch to a power-chair! It is compact to travel with whether you’re driving, cruising or flying. The Light Drive wheelchair power assist is approved to go with you anywhere around the world!
How it works
1. Place the power add-on the hooks of the wheelchair.
2. Slide the battery rack on the support, the connection is automatic.
3. Attach the controller to the supplied bracket on your wheelchair.
4. Attach the anti-tip wheel…. GO!
#2 ELK AND CAMELFUNDED Emergency lifting cushions that can lift an uninjured fallen person up off the ground quickly and with dignity.
When a person has fallen and is unable to get up from the floor for a long period of time (also known as “long lie”), the health of that person can deteriorate quite quickly in the short-term both mentally and physically.
By having an inflatable cushion on hand, a carer can lift a fallen person up off the ground while minimising the risk of manual handling injury on themselves.
The Camel differs to the ELK in that it is a larger sized cushion and is more suited to larger people and those wanting back support during their lift. The ELK is designed for use in smaller spaces.
How it works
1. Roll uninjured person onto the deflated cushion sheet
2. Assist and connect the Airflo 24 compressor to the cushion.
3. Support and begin inflating using the 4 push button controller.
4. Inflate each compartment until a sitting position is reached.

4. Unclip the sling and stow the lift ready for travel.
#5 U-STEP WALKERFUNDED The walker designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s and Neurological conditions.
The patented U-shape base is designed so that it surrounds you, keeping your centre of gravity low to prevent falling.
It is not like pushing an everday walker. You will feel as stable as you would feel holding onto another person’s arm.
Unlike typical walkers, the U-Step has a reverse braking system which engages when the brake lever is released. This design prevents the walker from rolling away in the event of a trip or fall.
An optional laser & sound cueing module accessory is available for the U-Step Walker 2. The module attaches to the walker and projects a bright red line across your path as you walk. This provides a safe and obstacle free visual cue that helps reduce freezing of GAIT and falling.
#6 MANGAR INFLATABLE BATHING CUSHIONFUNDED The cushion designed to lift you in and out of your bath tub.
Are you hesitant about taking a bath these days? The Mangar Bathing Cushion can keep you enjoying your bath time!
The inflatable bathing cushion allows you to sit and lower yourself into the bath tub.
While lowering yourself you can choose to give yourself a backrest or deflate the cushion even further for a more natural bath.
It works using a touch button hand control that operates an air compressor to inflate or deflate the cushion, raising or lowering you in and out of the bath tub.
The safety feature built into this device will only lower you into the bath when there is sufficient battery power to raise you back up again.
How it works
1. Get in the bath with ease.
Sit down comfortably on your already inflated cushion. Deflate down gently.
2. Lie back and relax.
Your entire upper body is covered with water. Just like a proper bath.
2. Get out with confidence.
Inflate your cushion with the fingertip control. Raise up slowly, then safely out.
#7 TOPRO TROJA 2G PREMIUMFUNDED The Norwegian rollator that's in a league of it's own - the ultimate in safety, flexibility, and comfort.
Australia is flooded with badly designed and poorly built A-frame rollators.
The result of using these rollators is bad posture that forces the owner to walk behind the rollator while leaning forward. The center of gravity increases as does the risk of falling.
The TOPRO Troja 2G Premium is in a league of it’s own winning the German Test Institute Stiftung Warentest award for operation, comfort & durability.
The Norwegian designed rollator promotes good posture & skeletal support by allowing you to walk inside the frame.
It has an adjustable backrest (included as standard) to provide back support while you sit down.
The Troja 2G Premium is compact to travel with as it folds like hands clapping. With a total weight of only 7.8kg, it’s extremely lightweight to transport around.
#8 AMF BRUNS CASSETTE K90 LIFTFUNDED A lift for wheelchair users who enjoy caravan or motor home traveling.
Do you dream of one day touring around Australia in your caravan, motor-home or van but find the idea of wheelchair access overwhelming?
Turn your dream into a reality with the AMF Bruns Cassette K90 Lift!
The Cassette K90 lift can raise and lower a wheelchair and occupant in and out of a caravan or vehicle – all at the push of a remote-control button
The installation of this lift is quite clever as it utilises the vehicle’s unused space underneath the doorway, taking up no internal space at all.
